From the Field

Reflections and insights on leadership, learning, and the work of supporting students and communities, especially in times of change, with Dr. Merica Clinkenbeard

Welcome!

I’m Dr. Merica Clinkenbeard, educator, leader, and lifelong learner.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside teachers, leaders, and communities navigating the complex and meaningful work of education.

This space is where I pause to reflect on that work.

Here, I share ideas, stories, and questions that have shaped my thinking about leadership, learning, and how we continue to support students and communities in ways that are both purposeful and lasting.

Because while systems shift, the work and the students we serve remain.

Ideas That Continue to Shape My Work

Much of my thinking about leadership has grown out of moments in the work itself, in classrooms, conversations with educators, and experiences navigating complex systems.

Over time, several ideas have continued to shape how I approach this work:

  • Noticing and learning from the everyday moments that shape leadership.

  • Staying grounded in purpose, even when systems shift and priorities change.

  • Understanding the difference between knowing what to do and actually doing it in practice.

  • Strengthening systems by first using what is already present and then improving how it works.

These ideas continue to evolve as I learn from the work itself.
